Shake Off Tension, Stress and Trauma with TRE

TRE stands for Tension, Stress and Trauma Releasing Exercises.

This is a body-based prevention and recovery method that was developed by Dr. David Berceli, PhD.

Our brain-body complex knows exactly how to re-regulate after stressful or traumatic events and how to re-establish the balance in the whole organism. For too long, the body’s own healing wisdom was ignored or we just didn’t know how to “switch it on.” TRE makes it possible for us to turn that switch on and off at will, which enables us to recover and enjoy our life to the fullest.

During the workshop you’ll begin to intentionally, safely, painlessly and effectively release accumulated stress and deep tension resulting from everyday activities and interactions, prolonged stressful situations or traumatic life events (natural disasters, wars, social or domestic violence, surgeries, accidents, traumatic birth experience).

You may not be consciously aware that these unreleased charge and patterns of past fight or flight and/or freeze/flop responses are still held in your organism, but your body is very aware and just waiting for the opportunity to release it.

You will learn six simple and gentle TRE specific exercises, which will deliberately instigate the bodys innate process of involuntary tremoring (neurogenic tremors), shaking or vibrating mechanism. Through this tremoring mechanism your body will be able to safely release the effects of chronic stress, unresolved trauma including PTSD.
Exercises are not strenuous and can be adjusted as needed to suit everyones physical condition. Most of the TRE tremoring is done while comfortably lying on the floor.

The body tremoring or shaking may feel weird, funny or even a bit unsettling at first, but these feelings are soon replaced by much calmer and relaxed body/mind state. By shaking off tension and stress as they happen, youll prevent them becoming trapped in your body, nervous system.

Consider attending TRE workshop if you are:

  • living with constant tension or pain that you haven’t been able to heal as yet

  • experiencing continuous stress in your private or work environment. You may be bottling it all up and feeling like you’re going to “explode” if something doesn’t change

  • feeling inflexible, constricted or trapped in your body

  • having sleeping difficulties of any kind

  • experiencing anxiety or panic attacks but don’t know why and feel powerless to control them

  • being exposed to stressful or trauma inducing situations as part of your work (first responders, teachers, nurses and doctors, therapists etc.)

  • being exposed to other people’s recollections of their traumatic experiences as part of your work or in private relationships

  • being aware that your core family member’s unresolved traumas and PTSD are affecting you as well

You will welcome TRE and what it can offer you on its own or when you incorporate it within your personal health or exercise routine. As you will discover, TRE is very flexible and adaptable once you understand your TRE process and are able to self regulate it and be comfortable during and following the neurogenic tremoring.
Regular practice of TRE will strengthen your ability to self-regulate the tremoring process, to be more resillient  and will add to your overall health and wellbeing.

This introduction of TRE by Jessica Schaffer, a USA based TRE Certified Provider, demonstrates that we do not need to be traumatised to learn how to use TRE for personal use and how to release everyday stress.
